On June 14, 2017 it became known of cooperation IBM and BMW within which cars of the German concern will be connected to the cloud platform developed by the American corporation. For the last this project is the next step on implementation of the technologies in motor transport.
The cloud IBM Bluemix system acts as the global center of data collection from many producers and interaction of car owners with insurance companies, repair shops, gas stations, etc.
BMW will begin to use possibilities of IBM Bluemix in Europe in the fall of 2017. Earlier similar bargain was concluded with General Motors. Besides, according to the head of global automobile, space and defense projects of IBM Dirk Wollschlaeger, the company agreed about cooperation with one more European car maker (his name is not revealed) and also conducts negotiations with other participants of automotive industry.
Uolshleger announced the The Wall Street Journal edition that revenues of IBM from such partnership will be generated from providing data access, stored in Bluemix. At the same time IBM will pay car makers, like BMW, for connection of their machines to a cloud platform.

Many carmakers develop the concept of the so-called "the connected cars" (Connected Car) when machines are equipped with Internet connection and also access to local wireless networks to use different services. In May, 2017 BMW started the CarData program created for data exchange between 8.5 million cars and the companies working in a car business (for example, gas station, the service centers, insurance companies). Such interaction opened for car owners access to discounts and advantageous offers from partners of BMW.[1]
