2017: Unsuccessful theft of trackers
In June, 2017 it became known that the hi-tech equipment worth more than $18000 was taken out by robbers from office of the Californian IoT-startup Roambee. However unfortunately for criminals, among the kidnapped person there were more than 100 GPS trackers With their help the police immediately traced and delayed two malefactors, The International Business Times reports.
Incident occurred at the end of May, 2017. When the staff of Roambee found out that their company was robbed, at once they understood how robbers miscalculated. Probably, without knowing that before them, criminals took trackers for chargers for mobile phones, the vice president and the cofounder of Roambee Vidya Subramanian assumed.
Actually the Roambee trackers are used for tracking of goods when transporting: thanks to the built-in functions of Wi-fi, Bluetooth and GPS they allow to define location of a load with an accuracy of 5 meters.
We notified police and equipped them with the necessary equipment to trace devices. Approximately in five or six hours everything was over — the head of a startup told. |
One more miss of robbers was the fact that during theft in Roambee one of criminals decided to drink beer from office refrigerator and was cut, having left on site crimes not only fingerprints, but also blood samples.
According to KRON-4 edition, criminals were arrested in the city of Alameda, State of California, USA. In a warehouse in the city of Union City where unfortunate robbers left the most part of the stolen devices, police officers detected other stolen property and also drugs. The police say that detainees are involved in a series of other thefts in this territory.[1]
Twisting Subramanian considers that an incident will serve for his company as advertizing, Roambee devices proved the efficiency in practice.
I almost regretted robbers — the vice president of a startup added. — With our trackers they had no uniform chance.[2] |
