MareNostrum 4 is the supercomputer.

On June 21, 2017 the Lenovo company announced completion of works on creation of the supercomputer on the basis of technologies of Intel.

The MareNostrum 4 supercomputer Pflops with a performance of 11.1 will be installed in DPC - Torre Girona chapel in the territory of the Polytechnical university of Catalonia in Barcelona. It will be used for processing of a number of research tasks:

  • human genome researches
  • work in the field of bioinformation science and biomechanics
  • forecast of meteorological parameters
  • studying of composition of the atmosphere
  • others[1].

The supercomputer system took the 13th place in the rating of 500 most powerful supercomputers published on June 21, 2017 in the world.

Functioning of MareNostrum 4 is ensured by 3400 computing nodes of servers of Lenovo on Scalable family Intel Xeon processors. Nodes are connected in a single system by means of the equipment cable with a total length more than 60 km. For data transmission between computing nodes the technology of switching Intel Omni-Path from speed up to 100 Gbit/c is used.

Accomplishment of all range of works, from design in laboratories and productions at the plant before site erection, within the project on creation of a system of such size and such power require complex approach and incredibly high level of competence. For this purpose it is necessary to have experience of providing complex and complete approach to project implementation of the specific client, and not all companies can offer it.
