In June, 2017 it became known of development of service by IBM company for flood forecasting. Creation of mobile application which will warn about danger of inhabitants of regions with steady abundant rains is planned.
According to The Economic Times edition, State center of monitoring of natural disasters of the State of Karnataka (Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, KSNDMC; India) conducts with IBM and Institute of MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology technologies negotiations on a reason of development of the system of forecasting of flooding for the city of Bangalore.
In this large administrative center in the south of India on average about 900 mm of rainfall drop out every year, and the number of rainy days in a year exceeds. About 174 districts of the city are subject to floods.
Together with IBM we are interested in development of a dynamic model which will allow to understand behavior of a rain water — the director of KSNDMC Srinivas Reddy says. — We need a system which by the beginning of a rain will analyze the power of drains and quantity of a rain water in a certain area. If the drain increases, a system should foretell where and as water will flow. We have no resources for development of such system by own efforts. |
IBM confirmed participation in the project:
We look forward to an opportunity to work with them. At the current stage we work on the solution and scoping of works. |
It should be noted that IBM already has an experience in development of the technologies warning natural disasters. In September, 2016 the company in cooperation with the authorities of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu created command center emergencies of IBM Intelligent Operations Center for Emergency Management which, using cloud and analytical computing, helps inhabitants to prepare for extreme weather events and in time to react to them.[1]
