Global computer failure
In June, 2017 in Medtronic there was a computer failure because of which the company any time could not make the medical equipment and execute customer orders. Most likely, there were malfunctions in a SAP software.
In the letter sent to the staff of Medtronic, the CEO Omar Ishrak reported that the company "temporarily disconnected the fundamental information systems" which are crucial for production of products and accomplishment of purchase orders of medical devices in hospitals worldwide.
This problem is caused by internal technical failure in Medtronic. There are no confirmations that it occurred for the external reason and that data suffered. Together with our IT suppliers we work on recovery of systems and resuming of normal activity, says the company. |
At the same time Ishrak asked many employees to work overtime to execute client orders in time.
The action plan on a case of contingencies was implemented to guarantee continuous accomplishment of crucial orders. However in the near future there can be some delays as we work on accomplishment of all requests of clients. Our commands work round the clock together with our partners in information technologies to minimize effects of this temporary shutdown of a system — the representative of Medtronic Fernando Vivanco reported. |
Though the company does not specify what component of a computer network glitched, the StarTribune edition writes that Medtronic uses the global centralized control system of SAP. On the website of SAP the Medtronic company appears in the list of key clients.[1]
