DPC of velcom

In Minsk in September, 2017 brought into operation one of the data centers, largest in the CIS, entering into world network of telecommunication giant America Movil. An object was constructed by the Belarusian subsidiary company Telekom Austria Group – mobile operator velcom who is going to develop actively cloud computing in the Russian market.

The complex was projected and built according to international standards. The data center received certification of the Tier III level in categories Design and Facility. An independent inspection of its reliability was carried out by specialists of the American Uptime Institute (UI). An object became the 41st in world network of data centers of America Movil holding.

The data center occupies 35 thousand sq.m. and contains up to 800 server racks – more, than any other data processing center in the country. The total electric power reaches 8 MW that is comparable to need of the sleeping residential district.

Spent for construction of the facility two years and $20 million. $30-50 million more should enclose in expansion of a complex with high demand. The export potential in the first years of work, according to the experts, is from $2 million to $5 million.

The data center distinguishes the increased reliability level. All active equipment is duplicated by the principle N+1 above. Each system – from power supply before fire extinguishing – consists of the main and reserve subsystems. The guaranteed availability of services makes 99.982%. For requirements of data center the reference reserve network 43 km long on two independent optical trunks is built. It connects it with two similar complexes of smaller scales in Minsk and has record capacity – 1 Tbit/sec.

The data center of velcom gives the chance to clients from Russia to place backup copies on territorially remote platform for creation of the disaster-proof systems. It will allow to protect data and to provide business continuity.

The data center will use the advanced technologies corresponding to world trends. Among consumers – both the small companies, and multinational corporations. Emergence of such object will become a push to implementation of cloud computing in the countries of EurAsEC and to development of digital economy. The companies in Belarus, Russia and other CIS countries will be able to use cloud computing. Besides, in velcom are going to work with the European clients actively.

All halls with server are protected by the second circuit of security, i.e. the DPC is implemented by the principle "the building in the building" that practically excludes a possibility of its damage or inactivation of servers.

The first stage of DPC includes two auto-halls, in each of which is placed on 104 server cabinets filled according to the customer order. In them it will be possible to install the equipment or to use virtual infrastructure of velcom operator.

In auto-halls permanent air circulation is organized. In data center the command center the building which is responsible for climate indoors is provided. All information is output to 12 displays, but a system is capable to manage processes and without participation of the person. In data center and on its perimeter more than 200 surveillance cameras from which image will be transferred to the server together with indications of sensors are mounted.

The data center is connected to superfast fiber optic network with capacity to one thousand terabits per second. It connects DPC with head office velcom on Internatsionalnaya Street and the control center (Network and Service Operation Center) on Zakharov Street. Will connect to superfast network also users of DPC, and the cable can be carried out directly to office of the customer. Also the alternative channel of communication is provided.
