2017: Announcement
In July, 2017 the Red Digital Cinema company better known on production of film cameras announced the first-ever holographic smartphone. The device called Hydrogen One is delivered in the aluminum body (the cost of the version is $1195) or in the body made of a titanic basis ($1595). Phone works on the Android operating system and is available to the preorder.
Red made the name, selling cameras for creation of the Hollywood blockbusters, such as Guards of Galaktika. The company has brief experience in production of mobile devices therefore probably consumers will treat a new product with some mistrust.
Hydrogen One is a basis of future multidimensional media system, said in the press release of the company. |
It is noted that the device will be modular (some components can be replaced or deleted) for expansion of its functionality. However modules are going to be sold after the beginning of sales of the product.
Developers pay attention to presence of the holographic display which does not require any special glasses and the headset, but at the moment it will not be known what technologies to use Red company for obtaining similar effect. The producer only notes use of a certain nanotechnology which switches the image between traditional 2D - content, the holographic picture, 3D - content and interactive games. The size of the screen of the smartphone is 5.7 inches. Programs for work with complemented (AR), by virtual (VR) and mixed by realities (MR) are provided.[1]
So far it will be unknown what processor it is set on Hydrogen One, but, according to creators, the chip will be one of the newest.
The analyst Ben Wood considers that the device will be difficult to be found in mass market.
The problem is that history shows that seldom such innovations finally change the market forever — the expert noted. |
The Hydrogen One phone will go on sale in 2018.
