2018: World use as replacement to projectors at movie theaters

Aiming to strengthen positions in the world market of the film theatrical equipment, Samsung Electronics increases efforts on promotion of the huge Cinema Screen LED panels with support of ultrahigh permission. The company calculates that in the future they will be able to force out traditional projectors from cinema halls. At the end of June, 2018 the NIkkei edition reported about it.

In June of the 2017th Samsung announced putting into operation of the first-ever LED film theatrical Samsung Cinema Screen screen. The display with diagonal more than 10 m and with a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels was installed in Seoul.

Samsung: instead of projectors we will equip movie theaters with huge LED displays

Slightly more than a year later, in April of the 2018th, at the CinemaCon exhibition in Las Vegas, the South Korean producer provided new generation of film theatrical Samsung Onyx Cinema LED Screen screens with the resolution of 4K and support of high dynamic range (High Dynamic Range, HDR).

According to Nikkei, in 2018 such displays are going to be delivered to Europe, the USA and Latin America. In particular, in April Samsung signed the contract with Cinemex movie theater chain for installation of LED Cinema LED screens at five movie theaters of Latin America, including in the capital of Mexico — the city of Mexico City.^[1]

Besides, the Indian edition Business Today in May, 2018 announced plans for installation up to 10 screens of Onyx Cinema LED in India until the end of this year.^[2]

Thanks to high resolution capability and support of HDR of the Onyx Cinema LED panel are characterized by the improved image clarity, brightness of the picture and saturation of black color. Also displays are capable to display 2D and 3D - content that is important for modern movie theaters. Together with the high quality sound JBL system from the belonging Samsung of Harman company, Cinema Screen screens create effect of complete immersion at the audience, the producer assures.^[3]

In addition to Seoul and Busan where huge LED displays of Samsung started working in 2017, the company in February, 2018 installed such screen in Shanghai, in March — in Zurich, and in April — in Los Angeles, Nikkei notes.

2017: The announcement of LED screens for movie theaters

On July 14, 2017 the Samsung Electronics company announced creation of the LED screen with high dynamic range.

Device diagonal more than 10.3 m the Samsung Cinema Screen LED screen performs functions of a screen, at the same time providing performance, reliability and quality. The LED Cinema Screen technology with the direct-lit function provides high dynamic range (HDR) for movie theaters and reproduces content at the maximum level of brightness 146fL with the improved uniformity of the image, without optical distortions and noises. The device provides the exact color presentation, and additional contrast and low settings of shades of gray allow to display on the screen as the brightest, and the most deep dark colors at almost infinite contrast ratio^[4].

According to creators, the Samsung Cinema LED Screen display is capable to meet the most various requirements of the audience. Cinema LED Screen is focused on use at movie theaters, when holding corporate actions, concerts, broadcasts of sports events and competitions of gamers.
