On July 28, 2017 it became known that the telecom operator of Tele2 installed SIM cards in trams and traffic lights of Ulan-Ude, thereby the company ensured functioning of channels of mobile Internet access for management of road and transport infrastructure.[1]

Project Progress

Tele2 started the project on equipping of trams terminals with SIM cards in April, 2017. Residents of Ulan-Ude had an opportunity to pay trips in trams with the bank card including on contactless technology. According to the operator, Ulan-Ude became one of the first cities in east part of Russia in which trams such terminals are installed.

Remote programming of SIM cards for operation of traffic lights and adjustment of traffic in Ulan-Ude was implemented in December, 2016. Earlier it was necessary to manage traffic lights manually, approaching each object and changing settings. Now through Tele2 network information on load of city roads and traffic flows arrives on the central console of management where specialists can control operation of traffic lights: create "green waves" for bigger passability of the loaded streets and increase time of an inhibit signal for more free. Thus, the risk of emergence of jams on roads is minimized.

Project Results

As a result of project implementation in Ulan-Ude payment of travel by trams can be made by means of the bank card now, and traffic lights at 56 intersections are adjusted far off.
