Toshiba Visconti is the processor for image understanding in the automobile systems.
Visconti 4 represents the modern multinuclear solution for the systems of automobile security providing to the driver the analysis of a road situation and the information on potential dangers in real time.
As of August, 2017, the processor for image understanding of Visconti 4 contains eight cores of processing of multimedia data that allows it to run eight applications at the same time. He can detect and analyze the images created by the camera, distinguishing lines of a marking, the next cars (as parked, and moving), road signs and signals, light of headlights of oncoming cars and also the most vulnerable participants of traffic — cyclists and pedestrians.
In the processor of version 4 the algorithm of image understanding Enhanced CoHOG Accelerator which provides expanded processing of distinctions of brightness of objects and a background for optimization of recognition of pedestrians at night and in the conditions of bad illumination is used.
CoHOG is the technology of histograms of joint presence of the focused gradients (Co-occurrence Histograms of Oriented Gradients) developed by Toshiba company.
2017: Application in the system of active security Denso
On August 14 the Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation company announced that the Denso Corporation company (Denso) uses the Toshiba Visconti 4 processor in the systems of active security of the next generation on the basis of the camera of the front overview.
As noted in Toshiba, electronic devices play more and more important role in driving, ensuring functioning of the expanded systems of the help to the driver and creation of autonomous cars and also promoting increase in traffic safety. The latest revision of the authoritative European program of assessment of new cars (Euro NCAP), the standard of security supported by the European Union adds criteria for evaluation of functions of prevention of the collisions increasing safety of cyclists and pedestrians.
Visconti 4 contains twice more cores in comparison with the predecessor, Visconti 2 which is used by Denso company since 2015. In it the algorithm of image understanding Enhanced CoHOG Accelerator is also used at the expense of what recognition of pedestrians in the conditions of bad illumination is optimized.
Toshiba and Denso companies also cooperate in area of artificial intelligence, working on creation of intellectual property in the form of deep neural network (DNN-IP) for use in image understanding, and are going to implement this technology in the subsequent devices of the Visconti series.
