Optical fiber with a core of square shape is intended for the diode systems of pumping of solid-state lasers of different power.


On August 18, 2017 the Schwabe holding announced creation of optical fiber with a core of square shape. In comparison with the optical fiber having a core of round shape development Schwab provides more uniform distribution of power on a beam area and lowers radiation leakages when joining with the laser module of pumping by 15%.

Optical fiber is developed by specialists of the enterprise of Schwabe holding — research and Institute of Technology of optical materials science of the All-Russian scientific center "GOI of S.I. Vavilov" (NITIOM). It is made of quartz glass and intended for the diode systems of pumping of the solid-state lasers of different power which are used in the field of high-precision processing of materials and medicine, in particular, in laser surgery, ophthalmology and stomatology.

Product NITIOM works in the spectral range from 800 to 1800 nanometers. The maximum transmission of a flow of radiations is provided on the wavelength of 1200 nanometers.

Optical fiber with a core of square shape is initiative development of the Schwabe enterprise for the benefit of the organizations making the laser systems of average and high power. Now the institute conducts negotiations with the potential customer. In serial production this product is going to be put at the end of 2017.
