VMware Cloud Services is a set of the cloud services intended for management, protection, monitoring and automation of cloud infrastructure and applications.

2018: Updating of Wavefront and adding of four services

On August 30, 2018 the VMware company provided the updated VMware Cloud Services. With their help of a command with operation of a cloud, DevOps, security and normative legal to compliance will be able to manage more effectively expenses and transactions, to provide protection and observance of requirements of the legislation and regulators in different clouds.

The platform for cloud transactions of VMware which is provided on the SaaS model. added services of automation VMware Cloud Assembly, VMware Service Broker and VMware Code Stream, service for protection and ensuring normative and legal compliance of the cloud VMware Secure State configurations and also the opportunities much improved cloud platforms for monitoring and the analysis of Wavefront by VMware. At the heart of services of automation of a cloud VMware — vRealize Automation.

According to developers, the combination of services for automation of a cloud of VMware Cloud Assembly, VMware Service Broker and VMware Code Stream will allow to optimize providing applications, to increase flexibility of cloud infrastructure and to manage risks. Besides, using these services it is possible to improve interaction between traditionally isolated groups and by that to accelerate implementation of innovations in business.

  • VMware Cloud Assembly: the solution for universal providing resources in any clouds, including AWS, Azure and VMware Cloud on AWS. It works based on advanced technology "infrastructure as the code" (Infrastructure as Code, IAC). Using Cloud Assembly specialists of IT and a command in operation of a cloud will be able to configure and optimize providing infrastructure and applications according to the principles of DevOps. Application developers will work with the same speed and efficiency, as when receiving resources from native public clouds.
  • VMware Service Broker: the solution is proposed by simple access with self-service to multicloud infrastructure and resources of applications from the uniform directory, without need to use any other tools. Using Service Broker, commands on operation will be able to control more effectively access to resources, developers claim. Service also allows to configure and implement uniform security policies in multicloud environments.
  • VMware Code Stream: the solution automates process of an exit of releases of the code and applications and provides a complex of functions for development, testing and diagnostics of problems. In the solution there are integration tools with popular building tools. It supports private clouds based on technologies of VMware, a cloud of VMware Cloud on AWS and native public clouds. Thanks to Code Stream of the company will be able to accelerate an exit of new releases of the code and applications and also will be able quickly to correct errors in process of their detection.
  • VMware Secure State: the solution helps to reduce risks in multicloud environments. Allows to correct violations in cloud configurations in real time using the automated protection of a configuration and instruments of monitoring of normative and legal compliance in cloud environments. It allows to prevent implementation of threats of information security with serious consequences for business. VMware Secure State also provides:
    • Obtaining reliable information about security: the solution indexes cloud assets and creates model of cloud infrastructure using which it is possible to reveal as the typical vulnerabilities inherent in any cloud, and the whole class of "the connected threats" which arise at the different levels of the interconnected cloud services. It provides the context information and visualizes "a chain of threats" for objects and their communications in a cloud.
    • Detection in real time: the solution monitors all changes in a security system of cloud infrastructure in real time and also issues notifications on modification of objects and the related services which can be affected by these changes. VMware Secure State actively spreads the analytical information on security of configurations between security experts, engineers of a cloud and the DevOps commands.
    • Continuous compliance to regulatory requirements: the solution includes available "from a box" monitors of normative and legal compliance and preparation of the corresponding reports.

Among the improved Wavefront opportunities in VMware noted:

  • Mass scaling of containers: based on internal testing of VMware, Wavefront can accept, analyze and visually provide data of metrics of the environment in which 100 thousand containers are started.
  • Complex support of Kubernetes: Wavefront provides comprehensive information on Kubernetes metrics, avoiding emergence of "white spots" in monitoring. Thanks to integration with service Pivotal Container Service (PKS) quick start of Wavefront from the PKS environment was added. Other opportunities — forced program implementation of previously configured notifications on important KPI for the selected clusters and the Kubernetes components and also support of metrics of kube-state which give a complete idea of a status and operability of Kubernetes in PKS.
  • Monitoring of operation of applications of besserverny data processing: with an array of instrumentation of Lambda SDK and control panels developers will improve the speed, accuracy and reliability of providing the besserverny code. Additional metrics like Delta Counters increase reliability of reports.
  • Visualization and improvements of the user interface AWS: the added functions provide in real time visibility of operation of applications which use topology of a public cloud, containers and microservices. Thanks to the Wavefront control panels for AWS the time spent and fault recoveries is reduced: specialists will be able easily to see where there was a failure and to quickly reveal a component which became the failure reason. At last, widgets for visualization of metrics accelerate detection of anomalies and the root causes of the incident.

For August 30, 2018 the updated possibilities of Wavefront by VMware are public. The solutions VMware Cloud Assembly, VMware Service Broker and VMware Code Stream went on sale at the end of August. VMware Secure State is available in the form of the open beta.

2017: Announcement of services

On August 30, 2017 the VMware company provided VMware Cloud services which provide comprehensive visibility of use of a cloud, of expenses, network traffic, monitoring of indicators and analytics and are protected by a public cloud and local environments. VMware helps the IT enterprises to find balance between flexibility and control when using several cloud systems, providing them appropriate means of management and support of security.

Initial set of cloud services

  • VMware AppDefense: the solution for security of end devices in DPC which protects applications by embedding of management tools, detection of threats and control of a response in the environment of VMware vSphere where applications and data are had. Thanks to vSphere AppDefense defines the list, a status and behavior of the applications started on virtual machines and can detect unauthorized changes and react to them. With AppDefense VMware helps IT professionals to transform a security system based on technology of virtualization and to pass to the architecture based on ultimate goals and focused on applications.
  • VMware Cost Insight: service for monitoring and expense optimization in a public and private cloud which will help IT specialists to analyze costs for cloud services, to find opportunities for economy and to provide expense information to business heads. Using Cost Insight users will be able to estimate total costs on cloud services and to define key drivers of expenses. Cost Insight offers the detailed overview of expenses on public and private clouds that IT heads compared investments with strategic priorities of business and maintained transparency of costs.
  • VMware Discovery: the automated service of inventory which increases visibility of work in a cloud and allows to receive control over shadow IT due to consolidation of data of inventory and accounts from several clouds. With this function IT specialists will be able easily to look for and identify the workloads started on behalf of their company. Customers will be able to group cloud resources by means of native cloud tags and properties even if these resources are placed in different clouds. Discovery offers the companies the optimized organization of cloud resources which is completely corresponding to their business challenges.
  • VMware Network Insight: the service of the analysis of network and security which is specially developed for public clouds and software-defined DPCs. Network Insight offers complex visibility of network functioning and detailed flow analysis of traffic which are necessary for planning of security of a cloud and troubleshooting in network. The advanced techniques of check, the intuitive user interface and a search capability simplify administration of VMware NSX. Administrators of cloud environments will be able easier to manage implementations of VMware NSX, to diagnose and eliminate faults in required scale.
  • Mware NSX Cloud: service which supports a uniform network configuration and protection of the applications started in several private and public clouds through the general the management console and API. The solution allows to create security policy on microsegmentation and to apply it to all workloads of applications, irrespective of the place of start (a cloud virtual network, the region, an access zone) even if they are serviced in several clouds. The overlay network configuration allows to control better the topology, traffic flows, IP addressing and protocols applied in public clouds. NSX Cloud offers specialists in cloud IT the constancy and control necessary for simplification and scaling of transactions, implementations of standardization and accomplishment of regulatory requirements and also decrease in operating costs of applications launch in public clouds.
  • Wavefront by VMware: the platform for monitoring and the analysis answering to requests of modern native cloud applicaions. Speed, scalability and flexibility of Wavefront by VMware allow to use DevOps processes. Development teams will be able instantly to receive analytical assessment of performance of highly distributed native cloud services. Tools of the analysis, notification on the basis of requests, the interactive visualization opened by API and integration of Wavefront by VMware, working at a basis of scalable base provide visibility of work thanks to which the DevOps commands will be able to trace problems with performance and to support the high level of availability of key cloud services. Developers will be able independently to use and adapt the analytical Wavefront by VMware tools to features of the code and also constantly keep track of his behavior.

As of August 30, 2017, cloud services of VMware Cloud Services, including VMware Discovery, VMware Cost Insight, VMware Network Insight, VMware NSX Cloud, Wavefront by VMware and VMware AppDefense, are available in the USA.
