The authorities of Norway will recheck manually the results of elections considered the IT system

On September 1, 2017 it became known of gain of information security of an electoral system in Norway before parliamentary elections on September 11. The authorities want not to allow frauds during vote therefore not only increase cyber defense, but also intend to perepodschityvat manually voices after verification of bulletins computers.
According to Reuters agency, referring to the statement of the Norwegian Ministry of local government and regional development (is responsible for the organization of elections in the country), the decision on introduction of additional control measures behind counting of votes jointly was made by the National security service of Norway (National Security Authority) and the Security service of police (Police Security Service).
This decision of the government it was announced in several days after IT specialists drew the attention of media to a number of vulnerabilities in the Norwegian system of counting of votes. The equipment scanning bulletins directly is connected to Windows computers with Internet connection that significantly facilitates cracking of the PC by hackers. According to experts though under the law all bulletins in Norway should be counted twice, the second — control — check is, as a rule, performed by the same machines, as the first. At parliamentary elections on September 11 bulletins will be rechecked by people.
Points nothing someone to desire to affect a voting process. At the same time the activity and attention to some technical systems, including at the international level grows. This in itself increases risks — said in the Ministry of local government and regional development. |
According to the minister Jan Tore Sanner, security and trust are key questions on elections. Voters should be sure of correctness of results, he said.[1]
