Virtuozzo Platform is the hyper convergent infrastructure solution for work with containers, a hypervisor and data storage for service providers and business users.
The Virtuozzo platform with the software-defined data warehouse optimizes costs for infrastructure due to use of exclusively software solution which combines the high performance and available cost of ownership with freedom to use any server of architecture x86 or to order access to dedicated servers from a cloud.
Virtuozzo Storage which allows users to use all service lives as the distributed storage pool with the high level of availability is a part of a hyper convergent software platform of Virtuozzo, reducing a downtime for software-defined solutions. Virtuozzo Storage creates fast and failsafe storage both for virtual machines, and for containers and also for the applications compatible to object storage S3 — all this based on one hyper convergent cluster.
2017: Virtuozzo 7 Update 5
The Virtuozzo company provided on September 4, 2017 upgraded version of the Virtuozzo platform. Functions were added both to a computing part of the platform, and to storage system.
Changes in Virtuozzo Platform
The last release contains possibilities of replication of active-active for S3 storages, allowing users to synchronize the data between all storage areas. Updated software also supports the advanced means of data encryption which can protect all storage due to application of AES256 standard and also differs in a number of improvements which help to simplify installation process, reducing deployment time twice in comparison with the previous versions, claim in Virtuozzo.
The latest version of software works with computing resources better, allowing to start loadings in containers or the virtual machines (VM). The technologies of work with the containers Virtuozzo which entered the last release show the increased solution compatibility with scenarios which were available only to dedicated servers and virtual machines earlier. Due to use of containers a system provides higher performance and density of placement that as a result leads to decrease in TCO, emphasized in the company.
In Virtuozzo 7 Update 5 support of limits of input-output for backup and data migration is provided that allows administrators to avoid any negative impact on performance of workloads, applications or servers owing to a high load at the expense of input-output.
Among others new opportunities of the Virtuozzo platform:
- Online migration of containers with volumes of NFS inside — "live" transfer of containers with the client of NFS inside between physical hosts.
- Docker Swarm support — start of Docker Swarm in Virtuozzo Containers.
- The optimized CPU configuration topology for Virtuozzo virtual machines — an opportunity to define both quantity of sockets of CPU, and quantity of cores of CPU on a socket when configuring VM.
Changes in Virtuozzo Storage
Following features of storage system were included in updating of a system:
- S3 Geo Replication is an opportunity nastraivta object storage S3 for asynchronous replication in the active-active mode to move data closer to end users and to provide additional protection on a case of failures and accidents.
- Enciphering of all level of storage of "at rest" — an opportunity to protect by means of cryptography all storage at the expense of the standard of enciphering AES256 in addition to the existing possibility of disk encryption.
- Integration with LDAP/AD — an opportunity to enter a control interface of clusters using an account from LDAP/Active Directory.
- Monitoring of SNMP — an opportunity to trace different events in a cluster (an empty seat, a status, licenses, IOPS, capacity, loading of disks) through the SNMP protocol and by means of popular monitors, such as Zabbix.
- Improvements of the user interface — an opportunity to browse and book audit of all actions which are carried out through a web control panel and to automatically receive notifications on any problems and possible errors of configuring.
