As Ulmart selected and implemented a management system for mobile devices

Content

Internet- the company Ulmart of one of the first in the market of e-commerce passed to new regulations of work according to 54-FZ "About use of the cash registers". In particular, in July, 2017 the retailer completed the project on system implementation of mobile device management based on VMware AirWatch. Works on creation of a demo stand and testing within the project were executed by Pirit company.

Project Tasks

Ulmart was faced by a task to provide an opportunity for work of employees of delivery using mobile devices. At the same time safe data exchange between corporate mobile application and corporate systems of Ulmart for fixing of the fact of transfer of the order, and also payment receipts, especially in the light of the last modifications in the legislation which became effective since July 1, 2017 had to be provided. As the main type of the mobile device tablets based on Android were selected.

Before change of requirements of law 54-FZ "About use of the cash registers" the employee used portable offline the cash register.

Choosing a Solution

For management of the park of devices the decision on system implementation of mobile device management (MDM) was made. The main functional requirements were:

  • The centralized installation and updating of the corporate application of own development
  • Possibility of removal of corporate information at loss or theft of the device
  • Serial work of several users with one device after input of personal credentials
  • The safe VPN tunnel to corporate network implemented at the level of the application
  • Deployment on the Customer's infrastructure, without use of public clouds

The Ulmart company started comparison of solutions, available in the market, in February, 2017. One of the considered solutions was VMware AirWatch software.

"Pyrite" demonstrated functionality of the solution and deployed the demonstration stand for testing of work of AirWatch within the required scenario. According to the results of demonstration and testing Ulmart made the decision on purchase of a packet of AirWatch Blue Management Suite and system implementation.

Also one of selection terms for benefit of the solution of VMware was the fact that the solution AirWatch is recognized by the analytical agency Gartner the leader in the market of management systems for corporate mobility.

Implementation Progress

Process of productive implementation of AirWatch was begun in May, 2017. Server components of AirWatch were unrolled based on the available virtual infrastructure of Ulmart company.

The decision on local system deployment of mobile device management based on VMware AirWatch is made for several reasons. First, we wanted to receive completely controlled point of entry in perimeter of corporate network. Secondly, during testing of cloud solutions delays in management which were not observed when testing AirWatch at the stand therefore as a result was decided to refuse a cloud were revealed — Veniamin Shustorovich, the director of management of infrastructure of information technologies of Ulmart told

According to Ivan Slivk, the managing director of the Pyrite company, VMware AirWatch today — the market leader of MDM is also ideal for the solution of the majority of tasks of management of mobile users and devices.

"We as integrator, we carry out a task of working off of the scenario of system operation required to the customer, carry out pilots, a demo stands and after receiving confirmation on efficiency of use of the solution by implementation" — he added.

Project Results

The management system for mobile devices based on VMware AirWatch was brought into operation at the beginning of July, 2017.

Purpose of the project — development of mobile application for mobile cash desks on tablets of employees of delivery. The project also had to ensure safety of remote use of functionality of mobile cash desks. If "assign" safety features to mobile application, it will lead to significant increase in cost of mobapp-development and does not guarantee quality of fulfillment of requirements of cybersecurity and also in the future does not allow to expand "скоуп" (engl. scope, scale, a scope, borders are a comment of TAdviser) the project regarding application. Having provided requirements of cybersecurity (authorization and restrictions of privileges of the user of the device) with implementation of the standard MDM solution, we saved purpose of functionality of mobapp for mobile cash desks (quickly, it is not expensive) and provided quality of cybersecurity up to standard which is guaranteed by the correct operation of the implemented MDM solution (qualitatively) — Alexander Bugaev, the head of information security of Ulmart company explained

According to the results of project implementation, the implemented solution AirWatch is deployed on 100 terminals of employees of delivery.

Further Ulmart is going to expand the policy of MDM on mobile devices of other workers (BYOD) for gain of corporate information security.
