IBM Aspera FASPStream

Product
Developers: Aspera
Last Release Date: 2017/10/16
Technology: IPTV - Internet Protocol Television. IP television

IBM Aspera FASPStream is the open solution for movement of video with a possibility of high-quality stream data transmission on the air on the standard broadband Internet.

Software, the created Aspera, uses the protocol for transfer of data arrays of FASP (Fast, Adaptive and Secure Protocol) to broadcast any source of video live (multicastes, single-address transfer of UDP, TCP or the growing file) and provides timely obtaining "live" video, irrespective of cyclic delays of network and the lost data packets.

For example, video playback with a speed of 50 Mbps requires less than five seconds of a delay at start and a quarter of second of a cyclic delay at 3% of the lost data packets. It is enough for stream transfer of video records with the resolution of 4K between continents, emphasized in Aspera.

FASPStream API allow media applications to broadcast video and to transfer data on global Internet WAN in real time with the predicted speed, providing direct or almost forward translation of media content in the remote cloud systems with functions of horizontal scaling and processing of video, transcoding and content distribution.[1]

2017: Integration with Telestream technologies

The companies IBM and Telestream were announced on October 16, 2017 the innovative solution for high-speed record and installation of forward translations from remote points with high quality of video and the accelerated operation cycle. Telestream Vantage based on Aspera combines technology of high-speed stream transmission Aspera FASPStream and a possibility of the Telestream Lightspeed Live Capture platform for processing of media materials and ensuring remote work of departments of video production with forward translations almost in real time. The FASPStream technology is closely integrated with Vantage by means of available API.

Record and content production for forward translations of sporting events, news programs, trainings or educational transfers are integrated to certain difficulties. The media companies are forced to rely on expensive satellite or fiber optic infrastructure and also to incur additional expenses because of placement not only film and mounting crews, but also the equipment on the platform. Normal solutions based on the IP protocol are proposed or stream transfer of low quality with high degree of a delay, or the small speed of work with impossibility of installation of content which is in process of creation or record.

Telestream Lightspeed Live Capture and Vantage Open Workflows based on Aspera offer a delivery mode of a video flow of broadcast quality from the place of shooting to remote studio of installation. Creative commands can process now on the air received from the remote locations (within the country or worldwide) material directly during the event. At the same time it is not necessary to wait for record of the complete document on a disk and then to move it. The transcoding, configuration, editing and other workflows on processing of video can immediately begin that considerably reduces a cycle of installation and increases the value of the created content, emphasized in IBM. Besides, the end device can have a number of options of placement, including centralized local and also private or public clouds. Flows can be sent at the same time to several points that promotes competent use of resources and sustainable development of business.

In general, according to representatives of Telestream, consolidation of Telestream and Aspera technologies provides the high transmission rate of media content on the public Internet. The solution will allow to transform production processes, records and installation, providing media more flexibility in the choice of arrangement of the equipment, the software and personnel.
