System of simultaneous observation of the driver and passenger

The Mitsubishi Electric corporation announced in October, 2017 the first in the class monitoring system of the driver using one wide angle camera for simultaneous observation of the driver and the passenger of a front seat. This technology will provide the raised security level and additional conveniences when driving.

In normal monitoring systems the camera analyzes only the driver's person. The Mitsubishi Electric system uses the wide angle camera which thanks to flexible installation of provision controls both the driver, and the passenger of a front seat. Image processing systems allow to warn about potentially dangerous nature of driving – for example if the driver does not look at the road or shows signs of drowsiness. Besides, a system can use a facial expression and gestures of hands for management of air conditioning or the audio system. System entry into the market is expected in 2018.

• Flexible installation of provision of the camera
  • The wide angle camera supports the configured installation provision in the car and excludes need of installation of the second camera for observation of the passenger of a front seat.

Requests according to which the decision on patent grant - 40 in Japan and 22 outside Japan is made.
