Eaton UPS-as-a-Reserve (UPSaaR) - technology for the UPS of reserve type, maintenance of balance of power of power network.
On October 19, 2017 the Eaton company announced development of technology for regulation of frequency deviations at the level of power network using the reserve capacity of the UPS. The product is held for use in large data centers.
The service of UPS-as-a-ReserveTM (UPSaaR) will help operators of data centers to react quickly to changes in consumption of power at the level of power network, to support frequencies within admissible parameters, preventing failures in supply of electricity. Development is intended for operators of big data centers as, for example, providers of servers or cloud services.
In case of failures in power supply, the energy which is saved up by the interruptible power supply can be used for regulation of consumption of power of power network, for stream charging, discharging the battery back in network. Operators of data centers will be able to regulate frequencies of the power supply network and to gain from it an additional income that in turn allows to pay back the UPS or to offer services of data center in more attractive prices.
Using UPSaaR operators of data centers can interact with energy suppliers, reduce level of consumption of power and even to return back energy in the power supply network.
The technology is focused on the Eaton 93PM and Power Xpert 9395P UPS models in the countries of the region of EMEA.
