The airport of Istanbul which is under construction in 2017 within one of the most ambitious projects of this kind in the world selected the international company SITA as the supplier of IT solutions. SITA will deliver a range of airport complexes and also recording systems of passengers and registration and processing of baggage which will allow to provide services of a world class, marking the future of air transport.
The İGA company – the contractor on construction and future operator of the new airport – recruited SITA company in the project with the purpose of development and implementation of IT solutions which will be responsible for management of all processes, from landing before take-off and also for everything that is connected with service of passengers and processing of baggage, from registration for run to the boarding gate. The SITA systems should provide maintenance of 75 departures per hour, 3500 runs a day and 1000 pieces of baggage for run. Upon completion of all project stages capacity of the Istanbul airport will make more than 200 passengers a year that will make it one of the largest airports of the world.
At the first stage of creation of infrastructure of SITA will unroll the systems of a design of passengers which will increase efficiency of formal procedures and will allow travelers to pass them freely. The automated control systems for sending passengers (Departure Control System) and the public platform developed by SITA company (Sommon-use platform) to which different airlines can be connected belong to such systems to share the same infrastructure of registration of passengers and control of the boarding gate. In addition, the SITA company will deliver an automated system of access control of passengers which will provide check of all types of boarding passes and their reconciliation with travel documents at the main stages, such as examination by a security service and pass on landing aboard the aircraft. The SITA company will deploy 1041 workstations of services of registration of passengers and control of the boarding gate and also equips 90 points in which passengers will be able to check the boarding passes.
The advanced technology of processing of baggage developed by SITA company will allow airlines which make flights in the Istanbul airport, to trace baggage of the passengers at each stage of a travel and thus from the first day will provide accomplishment of Resolution 753 adopted by IATA.
Along with this SITA will unroll the main complexes of management of the airport which will give to İGA company the chance to control each aspect of operation of the airport in the anticipatory mode. The end-to-end system of management of the airport (Airport Management Solution) from SITA company will allow İGA to centralize information on runs arriving from all airport systems and to distribute resources of the airport on the basis of beforehand made correct decisions. SITA will help to reach İGA companies the new interoperability layer at the expense of the solution of the general tasks connected with ensuring functioning of the airport, all concerned parties including airlines, land services and the leading structures.
Construction of the new airport will be performed in four stages. The first stage will be completed in 2018 by opening of three runways and buildings of the main terminal with capacity of 90 million passengers a year. Nearly 100 airlines already expressed the firm intention to begin to use the new airport at once after its commissioning.
