2017: Scandal with tracking users
In November, 2017 it became known of tracking users of the application of Lovense Remote intended for remote control by vibrators of Lovense company. It turned out that the program without warnings saves the history of use of a sex toy.
The Lovense Remote application is used by the microphone and the camera of mobile devices for audio-and video communication with the sexual partner.
Espionage the first was announced by one of users of the website Reddit under the nickname Tydoctor. He noticed that the application is created by the audiofile lasting about six minutes written during the last session of use of the vibrator and then saves in memory of phone.
Lovense recognized creation of audio recordings of intimate sessions of clients, but assured that sound files are not transferred on servers of the company and are stored only in gadgets of users.
We do not store audiofiles on our servers. For audiofunction work we need to create the sound file in a local cache. This file should be removed after each session, but in the latest version of the Android-application of it did not happen because of a bug. Because of this error the cached file was stored on the device prior to the next session when it was rewritten by the new audiofile in a cache, says Lovense which provides the The Verge edition. The company corrected "overhearing orgasms" an error. |
It is not the first scandal over Lovense. Earlier in 2017 the producer released a butt plug of Hush with a possibility of remote control which was vulnerable to cracking.[1]
In March, 2017 other producer of vibrators — Standard Innovation Corporation — agreed to pay compensation in $3.75 million for illegal collecting of confidential data of users of sexual toys.
