In total, 47 different models were affected by this error. Positive Technologie announced this on January 25, 2023. The manufacturer has already fixed the error by releasing patches for all switches in which it was identified.

By sending a specially crafted HTTP request, an attacker could remotely change the contents of the device's memory and cause a switch denial of service.

This type of vulnerability is less interesting in practice than arbitrary code execution. However, exploiting the discovered vulnerability can disrupt the workflow of the enterprise or disable critical elements of its infrastructure. All this carries costs and risks to the business and may become an unacceptable event that will jeopardize the company's activities, - said Nikita Abramov, specialist in the application analysis department of Positive Technologies.

At the time of the notification, vulnerable Zyxel switches were found using search engines in Taiwan - 12.8%, in France - 11.9%, in Thailand - 9.1%, South Korea - 7.7%, Italy - 7.6%, USA - 5.5%, Russia - 0.5%.

XGS4600-52F expands the line of switches of traffic aggregation level. The 52-port switch is capable of serving devices connected to the company's network, bandwidth-demanding applications.
