RUSAL creates DPC in Karelia for cryptocurrency mining

In December, 2017 RUSAL, one of the world's largest aluminum producers, announced the beginning of design of the data processing center (DPC) in the territory of Nadvoitsky aluminum plant (NAZA) in Karelia.

The DPC will be focused on providing hi-tech IT services, including special services for the analysis"Big Data" machine learning mining cryptocurrencies.

The AA company will become the first partner of DPC in Nadvoitsakh ! LAB which signed with RUSAL the memorandum of cooperation in the field of digital technologies. The first stage of DPC will include not less than 5 thousand computing blocks, servers and workstations. The consumed electric power of the equipment will be about 6 MW. Terms of implementation joint with AA! The LAB project – the third quarter 2018.

The efficiency of DPC is provided available renewable energy from Ondsky hydroelectric power station and the frigid climate of the region allowing to reduce energy consumption of cooling systems of the equipment. Also among competitive advantages of the project there is developed engineering infrastructure of the plant and tax benefits (the settlement of Nadvoitsy is included in the state program on creation of territories of the advancing social and economic development). Develop the platform all interested partners are invited.

"Now the RUSAL company defines the list of potential partners and clients of DPC to design the optimal power of its first stage. For placement of server and network equipment the company is ready to convert several buildings in the territory of the plant. Also on the industrial platform about 5 hectares are reserved for development of the center", – the director of RUSAL of new projects Alexey Arnautov reported. He also noted that only the first stage of DPC will allow to create not less than 20 hi-tech jobs.

The system of power supply of Nadvoitsky aluminum plant and proximity of Ondsky hydroelectric power station (is a part of JSC EuroSibEnergo) will provide to the center the high level of fault tolerance according to the international standard Tier 3.

The hydroelectric power station with an installed capacity of 80 MW is an upper step and a head-end of the Cascade of Vygsky HEPS. Annual average development of Ondsky hydroelectric power station makes 416 million kvtch.
