2017: Imprisonment for sale of confidential data of Amazon

In December, 2017 it became known that the former financial analyst of Amazon Brett Kennedy was sentenced to six months of imprisonment and a penalty in the amount of $2500 for leakage of confidential financial information about quarterly revenues  of the American Internet company.

Kennedy was sentenced in district court of the USA in the Western Washington after he pled guilty of trade in internal information in September, 2017. The chief circuit judge of the USA Ricardo Martinez said that Kennedy committed "non-capital offense".

According to the edition GeekWire, Kennedy transferred information on income for the first quarter 2015 to the student's friend Maziar Rezakhani. That then took 4400 shares of Amazon for $1.7 million. After publication of the income statement it sold shares and got profit in the amount of $116 thousand Rezakhani "predicted" income of Amazon for the first quarter in the amount of $ dollars 22.7 billion and losses per share in the amount of 12 cents at two forums devoted by trade at the exchange. Rezakhani wrote that "digits are so obvious" that "the 5-year-old child can guess that they will do next". Rezakhani paid Kennedy for confidential information of $10 thousand.

Earlier it was reported that 26-year-old Brett Kennedy was threatened by imprisonment for a period of up to 20 years, but charge recommended that it was reduced to one year.

According to the press release of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Kennedy apologized to Amazon and the family after the pronouncement of judgement.
