Date of the premiere of the system: January, 2018

2018: Announcement

At a January exhibition of consumer CES 2018 electronics the American company Ossia showed how it claims, the first-ever analog of finger-type batteries with wireless charging. The product received the name Forever Battery.

Externally the device is similar to normal batteries of the AA format (there are also versions of AAA). Inside there is a miniature antenna which is used for wireless energy transmission through a radio signal. The maximum range of the transmitter under the name Cota Tile makes 10 meters.

The Forever Battery accumulators can be inserted into any sovestimy devices: remote controls for TVs, cameras, the systems of the "smart" house, etc. Ossia is also going to create batteries for smartphones. Earlier the company showed for gadgets covers with the built-in accumulators with support of wireless charging.

Recharge of Forever Battery requires only the Cota Tile transmitter which in the company is compared to  the router  — a compact system can be in  any part of the room (for example, to fasten to a wall) and  to transmit signals at  distance, bypassing obstacles. Permanent connection to the transmitter will allow batteries not to be discharged completely up to the termination of their service life.

By the beginning of 2018 the transmitter works in  the range of 2.4 GHz, but developers promise to implement support of a range of 5.8 GHz.

The Ossia project will bring not only convenience to consumers, but also the big benefit for the environment, considering danger of utilization of accumulators. Every year only Americans throw out more than 3 billion batteries, often without observing the requirement to utilization.

Ossia does not announce sales of the products to ordinary consumers, however opened an opportunity for cooperation with the companies which will be able to install a system in the products. Among partners — Motherson Innovation which develops automobile solutions and cooperates with large producers, like Ford, Toyota and Mercedez-Benz.[1]
