The Acronis company announced on January 25, 2018 release of Acronis Ransomware Protection — the free solution based on own Acronis Active Protection technology which helps users to reflect the attacks of programs racketeers using artificial intelligence in real time and to recover data without payment of ransom.

Acronis Ransomware Protection provides the additional level of protection and can be used together with other solutions for data protection which are already set on the corresponding device such as antiviruses and programs for backup. The Acronis Active Protection technology performs monitoring of processes and applications in real time that allows to reveal and reflect automatically the attacks with which other solutions do not cope. In case of the attack of the Acronis Ransomware Protection program racketeer blocks harmful process and notifies on it the user through the message in a pop-up window. If in attack time any files are damaged, the solution of Acronis will help users to recover these data quickly.

Together with Acronis Ransomware Protection users receive the free cloud storage with a capacity of 5 GB, for backup and protection of important data not only against malware, but also against the machine failures, natural disasters and other events causing data loss.

Acronis Ransomware Protection occupies only 20 MB and practically does not require system resources thanks to what it can work in the background, without influencing performance of the protected system in any way, developers claim.

Acronis Ransomware Protection uses behavioural heuristics, optimized at the expense of models of machine learning. Models are generated in the course of the analysis of hundreds of thousands of harmful and legitimate processes in specialized cloud infrastructure of Acronis. They are implemented directly in a setup package of Acronis Ransomware Protection that allows to protect system data independently, without permanent connection to the Internet. According to developers, this functionality developed using artificial intelligence copes with all types of programs racketeers, including zero day attacks which do not come to light the solutions based on the analysis of signatures.

As of January 25, the solution is available only to users OS Windows.
