2018: Release of SZ985 Z-SSD of 800 GB
On January 31, 2018 the Samsung Electronics company announced release of 800-gigabyte (GB) of the solid-state disk SZ985 Z-SSD for the advanced corporate tasks, including supercalculations for the analysis of artificial intelligence.
The disk of 800 GB Z-SSD developed in 2017 is the solution of data storage for high-speed data processing in a cache and these magazines and also for other data storage devices of a corporate class intended to meet the growing demand in the markets of artificial intelligence, large volumes of data and IoT.
"We expect that our model of 800 GB of Z-SSD will promote release on the market of supercomputing systems of new generation in the near future that will provide big profitability of IT investments and exclusive performance. We will continue to develop the Z-SSD models of the next generation with more high density of data writing and more competitive characteristics". Dzhinman Khan, senior vice president of division of planning of products of memory and application development, Samsung Electronics |
The disk Z-SSD with one port and four tracks includes Z-NAND chips which provide by 10 times higher speed of reading cells in comparison with chips of 3-bit memory V-NAND. Besides, there is a memory of 1.5 GB of LPDDR4 DRAM and the high-performance controller. The model of 800 GB Z-SSD provides by 1.7 times the high speed of any reading (750 thousand input-output operations per second (IOPS)) and five times a smaller delay of record (16 microsec) in comparison with NVMe SSD PM963 model based on chips of 3-bit memory V-NAND. The Z-SSD model also provides the speed of any record to 170 thousand input-output operations per second.
Thanks to the high reliability the solid-state disk of 800 GB Z-SSD guarantees up to 30 rewritings of a disk in day (DWPD) within five years, i.e. 42 petabytes. It means that it is possible to save about 8.4 million movies Full HD of 5 GB in size during the five-year period. Reliability of the disk Z-SSD is emphasized with an average time between failures (MTBF) in two million hours.[1]
