Norilsk Nickel invested 1.2 billion rubles in digital technologies in the Rocky mine

In February, 2018 in the Rocky mine of Polar branch of Norilsk Nickel project implementation on implementation of the systems of a radio communication and positioning worth 1.2 billion rubles came to the end. The company began to work on integration of this system into production process in 2016.

In the project progress on Rocky more than 300 km of optical lines of communication for providing a high-speed data network were carried out, 12600 mine head lamps were equipped with devices for positioning of personnel, 660 units of the underground self-propelled equipment were equipped with mobile devices of registration, in underground excavations 885 units of reader devices of the systems of positioning and also 551 devices of wireless data transmission Wi-Fi were set.

Investments into project implementation made 1.2 billion rubles.

A system provides an operative communication of the manager and the management of mines with underground workers, automates time keeping of personnel of the mine, will allow to perform continuous monitoring of location of personnel and also the self-propelled equipment.

In the form of the simplified map of the mine in real time at the request of the operator information on the vehicles registered at the moment in each zone and personnel, on the number of runs, time of loading, unloading and a cycle for load-haul-dumpers, mine dump trucks and electric locomotives is reflected in the graphical interface.

Besides a system gives a special signal to operators of the self-propelled equipment at dangerous approach to pedestrian workers, provides a possibility of video control of process of unloading for timely assessment of fill factor of a ladle.

According to the operating officer of Norilsk Nickel Sergey Dyachenko, the system of a radio communication and positioning was implemented industrial security and labor protection specialists for minimization of cases of zoom-in of the equipment on the personnel working in the mine.

The Rocky mine (Taimyr Peninsula) is one of the largest extracting assets of Polar branch of Norilsk Nickel and one of key investment projects of the company with which perspectives of development of a source of raw materials of the metallurgist are connected. In the mine underground extraction of sulphidic copper-nickel ores of October and Talnakh fields is conducted. As of February, 2018 on balance of the mine there are 60 million tons of rich ore, and production capacity is 2.1 million tons of ore a year. Even at reaching design capacity - 2.4 million tons of ore a year – security with raw stocks of the mine makes up to 28 years. The general investments into development and development the mine are estimated at 134 billion rubles.
