2018: An exit of the modular microserver payment of Mini-STX bearing 10GbE

On February 27, 2018 the congatec company provided developmental work on development of the bearing payments for microservers on models with support 10GbE. The modular server payment in a form factor of Mini-STX of 5x5 inches in size (140 x 147 mm) thanks to the slot of COM ExpressType 7 provides high scalability on all processor sockets, suitable for the built-in servers, that allows to increase performance at upgrade of peripheral (boundary) nodes with implementation 10GbE with the minimum costs. It is provided that honor all investments into system design of the devices intended for real-time operation with 10GbE can be reused.

To increase performance, OEM operators and network operators need to make only replacement of the server on models. According to representatives of congatec, such solution will be especially interesting to operators of 5G networks and to the organization of peripheral data processing centers which expect that requirements regarding their performance in real time will increase after infrastructure 10GbE is unrolled more widely that will lead to permanent cost reduction on the processed amount of data. All applications working within industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), the Industry of 4.0 (Industry 4.0) and also for foggy servers, will require continuous updates of performance as security requirements, expansion of level of analytics and function of artificial intelligence will develop and further, consider in the company.

The bearing microserver payment in a form factor of Mini-STX 5x5

The peripheral server payment in a form factor of Mini-STX 5x5 provides high performance thanks to in it the module Comga-B7AC COM Express Type 7 based on the Intel processor Atom C3000. With processor energy consumption, starting with 11 W (TDP), a system offers 4-fold performance 10GbE to network in real time and to 16 main cores that is suitable for parallel processing of a large number of packets, small by the size. It allows to provide high network transmission capacity and a possibility of data storage directly on remote industrial facilities.

The bearing microserver payment of congatec company can be equipped with eight different versions of the Intel processors Atom - from the 16-core Intel processor Atom C3958 to the quad-core C3508 processor with an expanded temperature range (from minus 40 °C up to 85 °C). All of them provide up to 48 GB of RAM 2400 DDR4 which depending on requirements of the customer can be offered as memory error correcting (Error Correction Code, ECC), and without this option. Interfaces 10GbE standardly are implemented through modular compact priyemoperedatchikisfp+, providing network connection via fiber-optical and copper cables. Besides, the offered bearing payment for service and peripheral devices is supplied 2x 1GbE and 2x with USB 3.0 interfaces. One of ports 1GbE is connected to the integrated controller of management of a payment and therefore it can be used for problems of remote control, typical for the server.

The bearing microserver payment of congatec company in a form factor of 5x5 Mini-STX in addition has an exit of VGA and the serial interface for local administration. For the user expansions three slots of M.2 are offered here. Two of them are intended for cards M.2 2280 with keys M and 4 PCIe or 1x to SATA that does them especially suitable for connection of data storage devices. The third slot of M.2 accepts cards M.2 3042 with key A. Through 2x PCIe, 1x USB 3.0 and I²C interfaces it can connect, both information media, and other peripheral devices. Besides, there are also connectors of the buses GPIO, I²C, SM and LPC.

If servers on modules require active cooling, then here too can be supported and manage properly additional processor and system fans. It means that the microserver bearing payment of congatec company in a form factor of 5x5 Mini-STX provides the same performance of a server class which was available only to full-function servers mounted in a standard nineteen-inch rack earlier specified in congatec. Setup of this hardware platform and for the satisfaction of specific requirements of the customer is possible.
