WEY Technology unrolled 160 ergonomic jobs for the Pictet Group traders

The WEY Technology (WEYTec) company announced on April 23, 2018 deployment of 160 hi-tech and ergonomic jobs for professional traders in the headquarters of Pictet Group private bank.

Prerequisites

For a long story of the trading Pictet Group hall in Geneva the configuration of jobs often changed. Prior to the beginning of the project employees used a set of types of keyboards and options of arrangement of monitors: stood on some tables on four monitors, and somewhere — to ten. In some workplaces the PCs system units were placed under a table, on others it was possible to see not the new WEYTec devices which served nearly 12 years. Replacement of jobs was expensive and labor-intensive process. The company needed an opportunity with ease to change seating of employees and also quickly and just to change a configuration of jobs.

Assessment of the situation

Discussion of the project of updating of the trading hall began with disputes on virtualization merits and demerits. However IT department of Pictet Group refused this option, having taken into account that traders of bank need the fast, productive and reliable computers relying on the hardware. Pilot tests began at the beginning of 2016 when the WEYTec company offered Pictet Group the platform of distributed access of WEY — the hardware IP solution. Deployment of the platform does not prevent work of infrastructure, provides the high performance of each computer and low response time, specified in the company.

Project Progress

Within the project computers removed from the trading hall, jobs equipped with the modern monitors and keyboards allowing to switch with ease between screens and sources of information. Indoors there were demonstration jobs that traders could test a configuration in advance, about day of transition.

The project was implemented in six stages within twelve weeks. Deployment was conducted in working time, without interfering with activity of employees. Before project completion at the hall there were specialists of WEYTec helping traders to accustom during the first working hours.

Project Results

For traders

From the trading hall all computers were removed that made a working space convenient, spacious and safe for health. Besides, jobs of all traders were standardized. Each employee uses the ergonomic keyboard of WEY Smart Touch with special keyboard blocks for access to Bloomberg and Reuters of FXT that helps to execute transactions precisely and immediately.

Traders with ease switch between the used information sources (for example, Bloomberg, Reuters, Eikon, FXT, ICAP, etc.). The TV channels broadcasting financial news can be looked directly on the screen of the Smart Touch keyboard that allows to preserve the place on monitors for other applications.

Disputes were conducted as well about the optimal number of monitors, and as a result the management stopped on use of six horizontal screens with diagonal 24 inches in each workplace. Now the big area of monitors on average is the share of each employee considerably. However an opportunity for traders to change at any table that helps joint work and formation of working teams became the most important innovation.

For IT personnel

All computers are placed in the protected technical premises now, and employees of IT department can change a configuration of jobs on a centralized basis, without interacting with the equipment or infrastructure physically. By Pictet Group calculations, only one this solution allows bank to save annually 200 thousand francs — means which can be directed to other purposes. All computers are environmentproofed, and placement in the protected technical premises prolongs the term of their service.

Security

The network of the platform of distributed access of WEY was designed so that to facilitate availability of IT infrastructure and to provide uninterrupted activity of the company. The created infrastructure includes dual technical premises and full-meshed corporate network with high capacity and spare central switches.

For the management

According to WEY Technology, advantage of the updated configuration of the trading hall — high-quality increase in its flexibility and transformation. Thanks to the fact that jobs are not assigned to employees traders can integrate in commands and pass from one into another that helps development of the company. The working environment of the hall became more convenient for productive interaction of traders — it expects from them Pictet Group. In terms of capital investments, updating of the hall directly reduces costs of the company: configuration change of jobs does not require unreasonable expenditure any more, thanks to cooling of the equipment consumption of electricity decreased, and service life of computers increased. At the same time, productive work of traders, convenience and ergonomics of their jobs help Pictet Group to increase service quality for clients, emphasized in the company.

Tony Centofanti, the chief executive of department of commerce and sales of Pictet Group, selected four main advantages of the updated IT environment:

• First, each trader can use one keyboard now.
• Secondly, the mouse cursor freely moves between monitors without additional settings.
• Thirdly, traders can be switched between working environments (for example, between trade share and derivative securities) by one click.
• And, at last, the most important innovation — free accommodation of employees on jobs.

As he reported, for nine months before the project all shifts in the trading hall were suspended. And then, in only two days after project finish, each trader moved to the new place.

156 people changed jobs only per day. Nobody remained to sit in old place. It became good testing for a system and confirmation that we provided free accommodation of employees. Everything passed very smoothly — Tony Sentofanti concluded.
