Galex implemented the SAM project for institute of advanced training

On April 17, 2018 the Galex company announced implementation of SAM technology of management of program assets at the Altai Edge Institute of Advanced Training of Educators (AEIATE).

Project Tasks

Project implementation is caused by need to optimize accounting of software licenses of Microsoft and costs for IT in the organization. AKIPKRO set the task not only to control financial and legal risks due to use of the licensed software, but also to optimize costs for its acquisition and administration.

The second task was to obtain the comprehensive information on the risks connected with information security. The management of the organization makes the decision to carry out the analysis of a current status of program assets and to implement Software Asset Management (SAM). SAM is an opportunity in a complex to consider IT infrastructure and to receive a set of recommendations about creation of the safe infrastructure capable to maintain the modern attacks.

Project Progress

During the project specialists of Galex conducted examination of IT systems of the customer: collecting and assessment of documents of title on the software, inventory of software, basic audit of cyber security and also created the unrolled analytics in information security and the block of recommendations about implementation of processes of SAM.

Project Results

On the basis of the acquired information the main directions of optimization of operation of program assets – removal of not used software, application of more profitable combined schemes of licensing were defined.

"We thought of need of implementation of SAM technology when our park of the equipment began to extend. It was necessary to equip all new offices and laboratories according to modern standards of education. Keep account of a licensed software on such big park of the equipment in the manual mode it did not become effective, how in terms of process administration, and labor costs. Besides, we understood that the threat of emergence of risks, for example, of the virus attacks, and, as a result, data loss is big. The analysis which is carried out using the SAM system allowed to reveal weak points in the organization of process of informatization and as much as possible to optimize the purchase plan of the software and to develop upgrade strategy of the park of the computer equipment and software in general on the near-term outlook".
