2018: Release of the application

On April 25, 2018 the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis released for iPhone the application under the name FocalView intended for data collection of the patients participating in clinical trials of eye diseases. It will help researchers to monitor progressing of diseases without permanent visits of the patient to the doctor. The technology represents the utmost importance for work from patients with sight problems which movement is complicated.

According to the representative of Novartis company, FocalView purpose – to help patients and to collect the database about a status of visual function and also about progressing of ophthalmologic diseases. The application will allow to collect rather bigger amount of data for further clinical trials with more flexible and adaptive design.

Novartis released the application for collection of data on progressing of eye diseases

The chief executive officer of the company you Narasimkhan (Vas Narasimhan) reported that Novartis is going to start up to ten clinical trials using mobile technologies. Under its management the company actively invests resources in digital technologies to increase efficiency of researches, to save time and to cut down expenses, notes Reuters news agency.

The FocalView application uses the ResearchKit platform from Apple, data allowing to collect directly from patients in real time. ResearchKit started in 2015 works in a complex with HealthKit Apple – thanks to this iPhone program integrates and analyzes data of applications for assessment of the state of health which collect information on the patient's weight, arterial blood pressure, concentration of glucose and many other indicators.[1]

Several lead research agencies, including School of medicine of Stanford University and Medical college of Vail Cornell, developed applications for work on the ResearchKit platform, including for performing clinical trials.[2]
