CIO of Sberbank - about transfer of thousands IT shnikov in bank and the fate of SberTech of the Interview of TAdviser
In April, 2018 TAdviser published information on plans of Sberbank to transfer about 8000 of 11000 employees of SberTech to staff of bank. At that moment in Sberbank did not begin to comment on data, but in May decided to answer questions of TAdviser. The senior vice presidents, co-directors of the Technologies block of Sberbank Nikita Volkov and David Rafalovsky explained the reasons of this step and told about further perspectives of development of SberTech. The official representative of Sberbank transferred answers to questions of TAdviser on behalf of two speakers.
What basic reasons of the decision on transfer of employees from SberTech in Sberbank?
Transfer process of employees takes place Sberbank within the next stage of agile-transformation of a management system of Group. According to the accepted methodologies, as a part of our product commands in the hard contact work both developers, and representatives of business (owners of a product). They work together and within uniform process, report to the same heads therefore their further separation on different legal entities became inexpedient.
By whose experience you were guided, making this decision?
We deeply and attentively got acquainted with experience of similar transformation of a number of the largest financial companies of Europe and the USA. We did not manage to find model which can be copied from us completely. But in general all basic principles of agile-transformation are very similar and they are the cornerstone of our construction.
By what principle will separation of staff of SberTech into those who will remain in the company, and those who will pass into Sberbank happen?
All who are involved in creation and development of client applications pass into PJSC Sberbank. SberTech will focus on development of a technology platform of bank. About two thirds of the current structure of SberTech will be transferred to Sberbank. Also some part of employees will be translated in the opposite direction.
How will working conditions and a compensation level of transferred employees change?
Everything will remain at the previous level. Certainly, it is an important issue for our employees and process of reorganization is built so that nobody suffered any material damage.
How management of new IT employees in bank will be constructed?
All employees are built already in our management processes. In fact only the formality and all process of transition for employees changes it is built absolutely seamlessly — they will need to sign some papers.
What further perspectives of development of SberTech? Whether it is going to recruit new employees?
SberTech was and will remain to one of the largest IT companies in the country. The problem of creation of a technology platform for group Sberbank - difficult, complex, requires participation of the best professionals in a number of the directions of technology and engineering sectors. We, of course, will develop necessary competences, using as possibilities of labor market, and training our specialists and heads.
Whether there is a plan for an entry of SberTech into the market out of limits of Sberbank? Whether the company is going to render services to third parties?
Sberbank has enough tasks completely to load SberTech in the near future.
What current demand of Sberbank and SberTech in specialists? In what volume the personnel is required? On what specializations?
We have the same situation, as at all Russian market: highly skilled software developers, IT architects, specialists in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence are required. To us several hundred new "IT specialists" come annually and this speed will not decrease.
