Recall of defective electric vehicles in the Russian Federation

On October 4, 2021, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) announced the recall of Porsche cars in which a suspension problem was discovered. The service campaign affected Porsche Taycan (Y1A) electric vehicles and the Porsche Panamera model (type 971).

In total, 20 cars sold on the Russian market from February 2 to October 2021 are subject to recall. The problem is that in the suspension of the right front wheel of cars, a lower lever could be installed that does not meet the required specifications. In this case, it is possible to break the lower lever, which can lead to unexpected significant changes in control. The potential possibility of losing control over driving cannot be completely excluded, Rosstandart reported.

Porsche recalls defective electric vehicles in Russia

Official Porsche dealers to fix the problem will replace the lower lever of the front suspension on the right side. All work will be free for car owners.

Dealers and other authorized representatives of Porsche Russland LLC will inform owners of cars subject to recall by sending letters and/or by phone about the need to provide the vehicle to the nearest dealership for repair work.

Owners will be invited to Porsche service centers by notifying. You can also independently check the list of VIN numbers on the Rosstandart website. If the car falls under the recall program, the owner of such a car needs to contact the nearest dealership and coordinate the time of the visit.

Earlier, Porsche recalled 676 Cayenne (9YA) crossovers manufactured in Russia from September 20 to November 20, 2019. The problem was that the ATF pipeline weld of the Tiptronic gearbox did not meet the required specifications. If this defect is present, the car will leave oil spots under it due to leakage of transmission fluid, which will interfere with the vehicle moving behind.^[1][2]

Recall more than 43 thousand cars that suddenly lose power

On July 2, 2021, Porsche announced the recall of defective Taycan electric vehicles, which are suddenly losing power. 43 thousand cars sold around the world until June 2021 fell under the service campaign.

The problem found in Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo concerns a software error, due to which the electric power plant can operate at reduced performance or completely shut down. Owners of potentially faulty vehicles need to visit the dealership and update the firmware of the power inverter (in fact, it is responsible for exchanging data between the engine control module and the engine itself) to solve the problem. The manufacturer emphasizes that updating ON is not possible wirelessly, and arrival in the service is mandatory, since the inverter must be subsequently calibrated. Repair work takes about an hour.

Porsche recalls more than 43 thousand defective Taycan electric vehicles, which suddenly stop

Porsche Executive Director Klaus Rechberger told reporters that the problem was observed in about 130 cars. According to him, due to a malfunction, not a single accident was registered.

In a series of internal tests, Porsche found that engines can turn off while driving, although the brakes and steering remain in operation. If disabled, Taycan displays a message on the dashboard informing the driver of the need to take the car to a safe place. The company says that if the problem arises on the high-speed highway, the driver will have about 90 seconds to get to the side of the road. After restarting, the car can usually resume driving. Porsche added that there is no specific set of circumstances or conditions that can cause a problem, and that it can occur at any speed.^[3]

In early September 2019, Porsche officially introduced its first electric car and revealed its characteristics.

Taycan will be sold in at least two versions: Turbo and Turbo S. The first will receive electric motors with a capacity of 680 hp, and the second - for 761 liters. from. (torque - 1050 Nm). The power plant of both modifications includes a two-stage transmission mounted on the rear axle. The engines of the machines are powered by a 93.4 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.

In the basic configuration, the car accelerates from a place to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and drives up to 450 km without recharging. And the Taycan Turbo S reaches "hundreds" in 2.8 seconds and is endowed with a 412 km range. The maximum speed of both versions is limited to 260 km/h.

Porsche calls Taycan the first production electric car with an 800-volt electric system (this is twice as much as competitors). Thanks to it, batteries can be charged up to 80% in 22.5 minutes, and with a 5-minute connection to the charger, the car can drive 100 km. In addition, batteries can be recharged at home from an AC source.

The Taycan cabin has a fully digital dashboard, a 10.9-inch display on the center console and an optional monitor for the front passenger. The developers tried to minimize the number of physical buttons and make control of auto functions using touch presses and voice assistant.

Before the presentation of the electric car, the German automaker showed his capabilities in the race on an aircraft carrier. The car was accelerated from 0 to 145 km/h and completely stopped after 230 meters, spending 10.17 seconds on this maneuver. The flight deck of the aircraft carrier is 263 meters long.

2018: The first Porsche electric car received the name Taycan

On June 8, 2018, Porsche named its first electric car, which was originally developed under the designation Mission E. The automaker named its novelty Taycan and announced this as part of the ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the company's sports car production.

Porsche previously released a mobile app  with augmented reality. It allows you to study the internal device of the concept and embed a virtual copy of the electric car in the environment.

According to the company's plans , by 2025, electric cars  and hybrid cars will account for a quarter of sales of Porsche-branded vehicles.^[5]
