The Chelyabinsk state institute of culture (earlier Chelyabinsk state academy of culture and arts) as regional university performs training of specialists mainly for the Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, Orenburg, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen regions, the Republic of Bashkortostan and other territorial subjects of the Russian Federation. In 40 years of work the university trains more than 20 thousand specialists for the sphere of culture and art.

2015
From 12/31/2015 the Academy is officially renamed into federal state-funded educational institution of the higher education "Chelyabinsk state institute of culture".
1999
In 1999 the Chelyabinsk state institute of art and culture is renamed into the Chelyabinsk state academy of culture and arts.
1991
In 1991 the institute of culture was renamed into the Chelyabinsk state institute of art and culture.
1968
Opening of ChGIK took place on October 1, 1968.
1967
The Chelyabinsk state institute of culture is organized according to the resolution of Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 1062 of November 20, 1967 and the order of the Ministry of Culture of RSFSR No. 35 of January 24, 1968. It was the fifth university of a similar profile in the country and the first in the Urals and in Western Siberia.
