2018: Demonstration of the yacht with the automatic parking
In June, 2018 the Volvo company showed the system of automatic mooring of courts. It is developed in the division of Volvo Penta which is engaged in production of engines and sea equipment.
The provided technology consists of sensors and the managing computer which, considering the speed and the directions of wind, for milliseconds adjust a trajectory of the movement and operation of the engine to provide the safe movement of the swimming vessel.
By June, 2018 the system of the autoparking is not completely autonomous: she demands that the skipper was driving and could undertake management in case of approach of an emergency situation. The person can quickly deactivate a system to direct the yacht in the necessary direction.
Presence of the person driving by management of the yacht at system testing of automatic mooring was an important part of an insurance as even the experienced captain, not to mention artificial intelligence cannot sometimes consider all variables in the sea.
Mooring — one of the most complex maneuvers at control of the vessel. The error can be annoying, expensive and dangerous — the president of Volvo Penta Björn Ingemanson said. |
According to him, a system completely adapts to a current of water, creating feeling that behind a board a complete calm.
Volvo published the video on which showed how almost 21-meter Ocean Race yacht is moored between two similar vessels. Demonstration of a system took place within a command regatta in Gothenburg (Sweden).[1]
In Volvo is going to release technology of the yacht autoparking on the commercial market in 2020. The company also works on other systems providing automatic control of different vehicles including garbage trucks and trucks underground, notes the New Atlas edition.
