1957
In 1957, the M.N. Pokrovsky Leningrad Pedagogical Institute was merged with the A.I. Herzen Institute. January 21, 1991 LGPI named after A. I. Herzen was certified as a university and received the name "Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. I. Herzen."
1942
In 1942, the N.K. Krupskaya Academy of Communist Education was annexed to the institute. He was evacuated to the Urals in Kyshtym. In the post-war years, the institute turned into the largest center for the training of pedagogical personnel in the USSR.
