2018: The announcement of the camera for recognition of thieves in shops
In June, 2018 the telecommunication giant NTT and a startup of Earth Eyes provided the "smart" camera AI Guardman allowing to reveal thefts in shops. The Japanese companies developed this observation system several years, using algorithms of artificial intelligence and the technology open source created at Carnegie-Mellon's University.
AI Guardman processes the video image in real time and estimates provision of bodies of all people who got into the shot. Something similar is implemented in the game Microsoft Kinect manipulator, but in a case with AI Guardman two-dimensional recognition, but not three-dimensional is applied, notes the The Verge edition.
Compares data which the "smart" video surveillance system obtained from video filming by means of deep learning with previously loaded pictures in which people in a "suspicious" pose are depicted (for example, permanent examining or search of "blind zones" of the camera). In case of detection of potential theft the computer through a special application issues warning to a security service of shop and specifies exact location of the suspect.
Developers dispelled concerns concerning possible discrimination at once, having stated that the technology "does not detect in advance entered persons". So if, for example, the person got on theft once, a system will not signal about danger from his party at repeated visit of shop.
According to authors of the project, testing showed that AI Guardman allows to reduce the number of thefts in shops approximately by 40%. NTT hope that by 2021 such cameras will be mounted not less than in 10 thousand outlets. The producer addresses the product to large business.
It is going to release the camera on mass market by the end of July, 2018. Also the preliminary price — $2150 is known. Besides, buyers will have to pay $40 a month for custodial services and data processings in a cloud.[1]
