2018: Start of the platform

The international service provider Orange Business Services together with Airbus and Capgemini on July 4, 2018 announced start of the sobloo platform opening data access of observation of the Earth's surface. In addition to the arrays of information collected in the Copernicus program, sobloo includes additional selections of data of observation of space.

The sobloo platform gives the chance to process given and to provide on their basis own services to both scientific community, and general public, for example, to entrepreneurs and the startups interested in information for business development and also the developers needing the special environment for creation of new applications. It is supposed that the solution will allow to realize the initiative of the European Union of Copernicus aimed at free data exchange about the planet almost in real time.

Observation of climatic and weather conditions is critical for a set of spheres of business among which a specific place is held by the sector of agriculture. The possibility of monitoring of weather conditions in a certain location allows to make short-term and long-term forecasts, preventing investments into obviously unsuccessful projects. The predictive analytics in the Copernicus program already uses information on a status and possible sedimentation of soil, landslides and avalanches in different regions of the globe. In addition to agriculture, the analysis of observation of the Earth's surface is relevant also for the transport, oil-extracting and mining companies, told in Orange Business Services.

It is expected that Sobloo will promote diversification of collections of data (commercial images of Earth, thematic layers, mobile networks, IoT, etc.) and, thereby, creation of steady economy and further optimization of cloud services of the European Union. Using API (application programming interfaces) it will be possible to be connected to sobloo using own systems of analytics.

The Airbus company from the very beginning was a partner of the Copernicus program, and I am glad that sobloo became the next fruit of our cooperation — the DIAS platform (Data and Information Access Services, services of data access and information) within Copernicus which we start together with Orange Business Services and Capgemini. We as the chief contractor, we aim to provide tools for simplification of data access for citizens of Europe and stimulation of creation of the new business models based on observation of the Earth's surface — Mathilde Royer-Germain, the head of service of observation of the Earth's surface, navigation and science in Airbus company said.

Orange Business Services provides for the sobloo platform a global public cloud solution on the basis of Flexible Engine. This platform will allow to create the new services and applications using information of the Copernicus program and to improve observation of the Earth's surface — Stefan Kanis, the chief executive officer of division of Orange Cloud for Business of Orange Business Services company reported.
