The Angara network is intended for consolidation of groups of computers in computing clusters and creations of supercomputers of high performance. The solution is created on the basis of parallel algorithms. Using Angara it is possible to integrate thousands of computers in one network even if they have different producers and different architecture of CPU.
Network equipment Angara is applied to creation of supercomputers of all classes of performance necessary for accomplishment of difficult scientific, engineering and industrial computations. The Angara network can also be a basis of DPCs, storage systems, hardware and software systems for work with Big Data. The high fault tolerance of Angara allows to apply it in the built-in computing systems onboard aviation complexes.
2019
In September, 2019 CNews wrote about creation in Russia of the first supercomputer on the basis of Angara in switching execution. The computer system received the name "Fisher". It was created by employees NITSEVTA for the Joint institute of high temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences (OIVT RAS).
2018: Development of a communication network of the next generation
The Ruselectronics holding announced on July 23, 2018 State Corporation Rostec development of the next generation of the communication network Angara allowing to integrate any computers with support of PCI Express in computing clusters. In comparison with the predecessor, data exchange in Angara will be 3 times faster that will allow to increase the speed of supercomputer calculations. Development is conducted by "Research Center of Electronic ADP Equipment" (RCEAE) (enters into Ruselectronics holding).
According to developers, Angara is capable to integrate in a single supercomputer network from several units to tens of thousands of computers. The equipment allows any enterprise or scientific institution to create own computing cluster for difficult scientific and industrial computations, the centers of processing and data storage.
The Angara network of the second generation will allow by means of standard copper or optical cables to integrate servers and normal workstations in clusters. Any prepared user will be able to execute this process. The communication delay at data transmission between computing nodes will make only 0.85 microsec, claim in Ruselectronics.
In Russia there are no more than 3% of supercomputer systems of universal quantity. At the same time their computing resources are extremely demanded: difficult calculations are required for scientific research, training of complex neural networks, processing of large volumes of data, modeling of characteristics of new products of industrial enterprises and many other. Due to considerable cost value of computing systems and high operating costs, machine time of supercomputers costs much. Our development solves this problem, allowing, for example, small laboratories and design offices to integrate computing powers of the workstations in a uniform cluster and to conduct the necessary calculations independently. Thus, development will give an impetus to development of supercomputer technologies in the country and also domestic science and the industry in general — the director of communications of State Corporation Rostec Ekaterina Baranova considers. |
2016
First generation of Angara was issued in 2016 when the United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation which is a part of Rostec developed the network adapter intended for connection of computing clusters. The adapter was a payment with the PCI Express interface h16, equipped with the superlarge scale integrated circuit (GSI). For contact with other devices Samtec HDLSP connectors were provided (to eight connections).
GSI was directly made at the Taiwan factory TSMC on technology 65 nanometers. The NICEVT made a payment of the network adapter on own production. Based on the adapter of NICEVT unrolled a pilot project of network which received the code name "Angara".
