2024: Jet pack racing in Dubai

At the end of February 2024, the world's first jet racing took place in Dubai. Several people took part in the competition - professional pilots who had previously undergone special training.

As part of the competition, Gravity Industries jetpacks were used. These packs have a capacity of 1,500 horsepower. The same type of fuel used by the Dubai-based Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft of the long-haul carrier Emirates is used . Outwardly, the pilots' costumes resemble the equipment of Iron Man, a comic book superhero published by Marvel Comics.

The flight took place over water - to ensure maximum safety: the competition participants glided at a low height above the surface of the reservoir. To control the direction of movement and perform maneuvers, special nozzles attached to the hands are used. Jet packs allow you to reach speeds of up to 128 km/h. During the races, the two drivers actually collided with each other, but they managed to stay in the air. And one of the participants still fell into the water from a small height: it is said that he had relatively little experience managing the knapsack - he practiced for only 12 days before the competition. It is reported that after the fall, the smell of aviation fuel came from his suit. The man himself was not injured as a result of the accident.

Pilot Issa Kalfon, who eventually won the competition, admitted that he was nervous before the flight. At the same time, he stressed that the jet pack turned out to be safe and easy to use. In general, as observers note, the race turned out to be very spectacular. Some attendees to the event said they themselves couldn't wait to try on a jet suit and feel like Iron Man.[1]

2018: Jet suit sales

In July 2018, Gravity Industries began selling a flying suit similar to that of the "iron man" in the film of the same name. The Jet Suit kit is available in the British store Selfridges for 340,000 pounds (about $446,000 at the exchange rate as of July 24).

The suit, which allows you to fly, is 3D-printed and equipped with five engines that run on both jet fuel and diesel. The device allows you to reach speeds of up to 90 km/h, although the manufacturer recommends accelerating to a maximum of 50 km/h for safety reasons.

According to the developers, the suit allows you to climb to a height of 3650 meters, but you need to carefully move so far from the ground, since the fuel reserve is enough only for four to five minutes of flight. The capacity of the fuel tank is 15 liters. It is claimed that in cold weather, you can squeeze more traction and fly for about nine minutes.

The product weighs quite a bit - about 27 kg. This indicator was achieved by using special block components assembled from parts printed by a 3D printer.

The "iron man" suit printed on a 3D printer went on sale. Price

Gravity Industries was founded by amateur engineer Richard Browning, who has been working on Jet Suit since March 2017. In November of the same year, he set a Guinness record for speed in a jet suit: his suit was able to reach a speed of 51.53 km/h.

The creation of personal aircraft is engaged not only in Gravity Industries, but this company was one of the first to begin serial production of such suits. American JetPack Aviation in early 2018 introduced a jet pack capable of accelerating to 321 km/h. The JB11 model can rise to a height of more than 4.5 thousand meters and keep a person in the air for up to 12 minutes.[2]
