2018: Partnership with Rusat Helskea on development of nuclear medicine
The company Rusat Helskea (Rusatom Healthcare, integrator of ROSATOM State Corporation in the field of radiation technologies in medicine) and Corporation on atomic energy of the Republic of South Africa (NECSA) on July 26, 2018 signed the agreement on cooperation in the field of use of nuclear not energy technologies. Nuclear medicine, in particular, diagnostics and cancer therapy in Africa and on other continents are called the main spheres of cooperation.
Doctor Kelvin Kemm, the head of the Council of directors of NECSA, so commented on an event:
We planned expansion of the work in the field of nuclear medicine long ago and we hope that together with our Russian partners we successfully implement it. |
According to the CEO of Rusatom Healthcare Denis Cherednichenko, both parties have necessary knowledge in this area, and cooperation will open for them the new markets and will accelerate technology development in the field of atomic technologies. He also emphasized that the nuclear medicine plays a key role in early diagnosis of cancer and other noninfectious diseases.
One of the purposes of cooperation declares construction of two innovation solution reactors in the territory of the Republic of South Africa. They have the small sizes and rather low cost, told in Rusat Helskea. Solution reactors are developed especially for cost-efficient production of the radionuclides applied in the field of nuclear medicine.
The parties also plan creation of a commercial cyclotron in the Republic of South Africa for the purpose of further increase of production capacity for needs of nuclear medicine in the African region. According to information Rusat Helskea, use of a cyclotron is one more low-cost method of production of different radio nuclide pharmaceuticals.
Doctor Kemm also added what cooperation assumes, in addition to everything, creation of the standardized oncological centers in the countries of Africa, in the Republic of South Africa and the Russian Federation.
Early diagnosis of cancer is very important for effective cancer therapy, but still only very small share of the population of Africa has access to these vital technologies. We will work in cooperation with local authorities, business and the medical organizations in each of the countries of the planned activity that to change it — Calvin Kemm emphasized. |
