Engineers calculated durability of facades "Lahta of the Center" by means of computer simulation

The TsIFRA company announced on August 1, 2018 that specialists of the company calculated durability of metalwork of a front system of a skyscraper "Lahta the Center" at action of the maximum wind load by request of Prospekt SPB LLC, the designer and the producer of elements of a front system. Calculations are executed for assessment of the loadings operating on fastenings of a front system to steel concrete overlappings of a skyscraper.

"Lahta the Center" is located in Primorsky district of St. Petersburg, on the bank of the Gulf of Finland. The wind operating on the bank of the gulf can hit against walls of a skyscraper and create powerful turbulences, in certain cases capable create fluctuations, as at a 4-5-mark earthquake. In advance to check front constructions for durability, architects are come to the rescue by computer simulation and aero-dynamic tests.

Calculation of durability of metalwork of a front system of a skyscraper

On "Lahta the Center" a glass facade consists of 16,505 fragments of a different form. Its total area is 72,500 sq.m. In natural aero-dynamic tests fragments of a facade are tested for tightness at impact of a rain and strong wind. On specially built model glass is put on trials, spraying on it water using airplane screws — thus the whole gale is modelled.

The complex mechanical system allowing to open and close in the automatic mode windows at the height of several hundred meters is behind a visible part of a facade, providing at the same time durability and stability of construction of a facade at impact of strong wind. A wind load was carefully calculated by specialists. The model of the model of an object was placed in the wind tunnel. Pressure upon a facade of the building and upon a core was checked. It is received that loading of wind changes depending on height and makes from 300 to 500 Pas. These data are used by specialists of JSC TSIFRA for calculation of durability of metalwork of a front system of a skyscraper "Lahta the Center".

Three-dimensional model of a front system of the technical floor of a skyscraper

Engineers of JSC TSIFRA in program system of ANSYS created detailed three-dimensional model of a complex front system of the technical floor of a skyscraper "Lahta the Center". This model allows to load in a virtual mode a system with the maximum wind load and to estimate efforts in each point, without carrying out real tests. Within the executed researches the deformed fortune of metalwork is come into, the safety factor of stability and load from a front system of a concrete sole is determined that will allow to provide durability of connections and durability of a front system of a skyscraper "Lahta the Center". According to the results of calculations specialists of JSC TSIFRA defined that even at a rush of a gale-force wind from the gulf with a speed of 100 km/h of a metal construction of a front system will not be deformed that guarantees an opportunity in any weather without participation of the person to close and open windows at the height of 300 m.
