In August, 2018 Audis and Ericsson signed the contract within which the Swedish company will equip the enterprise of the partner of a 5G communication for the purpose of development of "smart" production of cars.
The equipment and other solutions of Ericsson allowing to unroll networks of fifth generation will be installed in production laboratory Audi in Gaymerskhaym (Germany). Thanks to it the project Wednesday which completely repeats production Audi in Ingolstadt and other cities will be simulated.
Ericsson will start in the technical center Audi in Gaymerskhaym high-speed network at the expense of what this production facility will be turned into the proving ground for implementation of technology 5G at early stages. The new network is intended for integration into it of alternative or additional technologies along with already existing, including Wi-Fi, wireless LAN, wired networks (Ethernet) connecting production components.
The first stage of joint work Audi and Ericsson will concern areas of autoproduction in which the speed and use of wireless industrial robots in assembly of machines is very important.
According to the technical director of Ericsson Erik Ekudden, together with Audi "smart wireless production" and also cars with the expanded network functions allowing vehicles to interact with each other and with road infrastructure will be tested.
The technology 5G allows to increase data transfer rate and network transmission capacity and also to provide safe connection. Besides, ultralow delays guarantee small response time between the equipment and the systems of the enterprise, said in a joint statement of the companies. |
Ekudden called the project with Ericsson an excellent opportunity for implementation of potential of a 5G in automotive industry.[1]
