Solutions InfiNet reduced number of criminal offenses in the Colombian city of Bokhaka

On August 10, 2018 the InfiNet company announced that since the beginning of 2017 thanks to implementation of the innovation and inexpensive wireless infrastructure in the Colombian city of Bokhaka the crime amount, connected with infliction of bodily injury, was reduced at least by 45%.

Prerequisites of the Project

Bokhaka, the small town near the capital of Colombia, Bogota, began universal fight against growth of crime after the population seriously suffered from a wave of crimes. Attacks to health and burglaries happened to damnification not only at night, but also in the afternoon. Also the number of the crimes connected with drug trafficking grew. In 2016 the local government recognized need of anticipatory measures and system implementation of video surveillance. It was necessary to trace a situation in six major strategic points of the city at simultaneous increase in number of police patrols.

Project Progress

This project was started after the government addressed Maicrotel, the partner InfiNet in Colombia, with a request to develop and implement a functional and trusted wireless network for transfer of video elementary streams from IP cameras. Some of them were equipped with the fixed lenses, others could be managed remotely – they had functions of an inclination and scaling. In four major districts of the city of Maicrotel "point multipoint" (PMP) set base stations of InfiMAN 2x2 topology. Other areas were out of a coverage of the base station therefore they were equipped with the topology equipment InfiLINK 2x2 LITE "point-to-point". The unrolled platform allowed law enforcement agencies to reduce considerably crime rate in the city using different methods of processing and data analysis, such as system of face recognition and automatic license plate recognition (ANPR). Besides, videos began to use as proofs in court.

Project Results

According to data of criminal reports, for the first eight months 2016 in the city 80 crimes with infliction of bodily injury were registered. Right after start of the platform of video surveillance the total quantity of the registered crimes for the same time frame was reduced to 44 – thus, crimes became 45% less. The authorities noted considerable decrease in rates of a drug traffic - for 23% during the short period and reduction of number of thefts: their number decreased by 22% from the moment of deployment of the wireless platform.

The company integrator reported that the first stage of the project turned out so successful that the local administration selected the budget for purchase of additional video cameras and control of all highways conducting in municipality. The authorities continue to use all possible efforts for increased security and reduction of number of thefts both in apartment houses, and in commercial premises.
