Date of the premiere of the system: 2018/08/15
Technology: SCS

2018: MTL831C и MTL838C

On August 15, 2018 the Eaton company announced release of multiplexers of MTL830 series for measurement of signals of temperature sensors for dangerous zones (category "Zone 0").

Eaton MTL831C and MTL838C multiplexers

According to the statement of the producer, they have the improved form factor that allows to minimize manual laying of cables, to simplify installation and service and also to bring the equipment into accord with instructions of RoHS. Multiplexers of MTL830 series exclude need of isolation of each instrumental chain, promoting expense reduction on laying of cables up to 50%. It is possible due to support of connection of a large number of temperature sensors of a dangerous zone to the general trunk of the data transmission representing one twisted pair cable. Additional economy can be received thanks to reduction of number of logins of management and also thanks to reduction of dimensions and weight reduction of the device.

MTL831C multiplexers transmitters are usually used in a dangerous zone and often are installed in direct a bliza to field sensors in the body of protection of class IP65. The module of the transmitter is executed with a connectivity of the thermocouple, thermometer of resistance and millivoltny analog inputs for sensors. Compatible MTL838C receivers are located in the safe area. They will transform the signals received from MTL831C so that those corresponded to the serial interfaces Honeywell LLMUX or Modbus, and the host controllers of a PLC, the PC and TsSU broadcast them via the trunk data transmissions, together with information on the status, for the subsequent transfer. The main cable can be one twisted pair cable of wires or couple of wires in the multi-conductor intrinsically safe cable. The trunk transfers data to distance to 1 km between safe and dangerous areas and provides a power supply of transmitters – an additional power supply in a dangerous zone is not required. At placement of the multiplexer transmitter in a dangerous zone the trunk of data transmission should be equipped with the digital insulator MTL5053 IS.

A multiplexer system can transmit state-of-health data to thirty two inputs through two transmitters and one receiver, reducing at the same time the number of couples of cables in a dangerous zone from thirty two to one. All this allows to reduce time of installation and expenses due to failure from laying of a long compensation cable for thermocouples from a dangerous zone in safe. Similar economy arises and when using 3-or 4-wire thermometers of resistance as all wires of each thermometer of resistance can be connected to the transmitter or to its protective body without the need for laying of excess cables or installation of additional components, noted in Eaton.
