2018: Avast SecureLine VPN of version 2.0

On August 16, 2018 the Avast company announced availability of Avast SecureLine VPN of version 2.0 to the PC and Mac. Using the solution users can create safe VPN connection automatically, at start of the computer. One more function — automatic connection of Avast SecureLine VPN when using the unprotected network Wi-fi that allows to hide actions of users in network from public eyes. Also the version involves advantages of additional locations of servers — their number grew from 41 to 54 thanks to what also connection speed through VPN increased, noted in Avast.

The Avast Software company presented the solution Avast SecureLine VPN

The virtual private network (VPN) creates the safe ciphered Internet connection. With it the user can open any tabs in the browser, both its history of visits and data will be invisible to the third parties — for example, malefactors and cyberspies. To secure itself during the work in public networks or at connection to false access point of Wi-fi, users start the Avast SecureLine VPN application which ciphers their data, doing them unavailable to other people, explained in Avast.

According to the developer, Avast SecureLine VPN will protect users in the following situations:

  • Security during the work in public networks Wi-fi. If the input in Wi-fi network does not require the password, such network is unsafe. Even if the access code or the password after connection to Wi-Fi ask to enter the user, such connection is not protected by enciphering, and any person who is nearby can monitor actions of the user and intercept transmitted data, including logins, passwords, bank information, personal e-mails, a photo and video.
  • Protection at connection to false networks Wi-fi. In computers and phones the option using which they are automatically included into Wi-fi network often is by default configured if earlier worked in network with the same name. It is unsafe as cybercriminals can create false access point of Wi-fi. It is enough to select for it an identical name, and all devices which are nearby, will be connected to this network. Thus, hackers can get access to personal data of users.

According to the statement of the developer, in Avast SecureLine VPN 256-bit enciphering according to the standard (AES) meeting the requirements of defense industry is used. Versions of the solution for iOS and Mac involve the IPsec protocol. Their basis is formed by own stacks of Apple that provides high compatibility and performance. Avast SecureLine VPN is available to Mac, Windows, Android and iOS. Avast also cooperates with mobile operators, providing to users VPN protection directly on the mobile devices.
