Renault, Nissan and Mitshubishi decided to start Android in millions of cars

On September 18, 2018 the Google company announced signing of the contract with car makers Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi. Under the terms of the agreement which cost does not reveal millions of vehicles of the specified brands will be equipped with the information and entertaining systems on the operating system Android and also different services Google.

Besides, the Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi cars will receive cartographic service Google Maps, the personal assistant Google Assistant and app store of Google Play. The unique user interface and additional functions based on the general Android platform will be developed for each model of the car, reported in Google.

According to the The Wall Street Journal edition, this cooperation for Google represents grandiose success in terms of plans of the company for expansion of use Android in the automotive industry. In the first half of 2018 5.5 million Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi cars were sold that it is more, than at Volkswagen and Toyota.

Information and entertaining system of the Nissan Altima car

Bloomberg notes that most car makers refuse to cooperate with Google and Apple, aiming to retain control over such data as location of the driver, style of its driving and also the choice of information entertainment programs. Car makers also aimed to develop and sell own services, without giving to the technology companies access to the systems.

By September, 2018 many car makers prefer to use Linux, Windows or QNX in the information and entertaining systems. These are rather bulky platforms which are limited regarding adding of new applications or functions, but the auto giants can control completely these OS, transfers Reuters news agency.

The transaction of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi with Google can push other carmakers to following the example of competitors and to attract the American Internet giant to partnership, the analyst of AFS Group to Jauke de Jong considers.

The first machines Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi with the multimedia centers based on Android will appear in the market in 2021. The new information and entertaining systems will be integrated with tools for remote diagnostics and to support wireless updating by means of a corporate cloud service.

News that Renault motor transport, Nissan and Mitsubishi will be closely integrated with software of Google brought down the quotations of the developer of navigation solutions of TomTom. On September 18, 2018 stocks of the Dutch company fell in price for 24%, and market capitalization — for 500 million euros. Next day quotations continued decrease and dropped by 6%. TomTom delivers digital maps of Renault and to other large car makers.

In 2017 orders in automotive industry at TomTom made 400 million euros, and revenue in this business will be measured by a half from this indicator in the 2018th, the chief financial officer of TomTom Taco Titulaer reported the Dutch news agency ANP, having recognized that the transaction of the auto giants with Google will lower revenues of TomTom.[1]
