2018: Creation of a virtual wall on border of the USA and Mexico
In September, 2018 the Californian company Quanergy finished tests of the lidarny system of protection of lines which drew with the permission of the sheriff of the district Val-Verde on one of local ranches at border with Mexico. The company signed the contract with customs service of the USA and constructed a virtual wall which would constrain illegal immigrants on border with Mexico.
The Quanergy company founded in 2012 and which received more than $160 million for development from investors was one of many producers of lidars which appeared during a boom of unmanned vehicles. But this industry develops quite slowly, and developers found new potential sales market of lidars – border control. A number of the technologies developed in Silicon Valley also well is suitable for these purposes. In combination with the advanced achievements in the field of artificial intelligence digital cameras, lidarny and other sensors can authentically identify and trace people and objects which move to their viewing field.
On border with Mexico one more startup, Anduril using digital cameras and artificial intelligence for border control tests the equipment. The founder of this startup was Palmer Luckey which founded the company on projects of virtual reality of Oculus and sold it to Facebook for $2 billion in 2014.
The customs service and boundary protection of the USA already uses on border with Mexico a set of technologies, including video cameras, unmanned aerial vehicles, infrared points and pressure sensors. But these technologies are applied only on specific sites, and services still do not use artificial intelligence which can automatically analyze the data obtained by cameras and other sensors. Quanergy and Anduril are going to change this situation in the near future.[1]
