At the end of September, 2018 the retail chain stores of Walmart bought 17,000 devices of augmented reality Oculus Go for personnel training. In 2017 Walmart already used VR devices in the educational purposes to help to adapt to the new employees, is going to apply the proved technology to increase in professional qualification of employees on places now. But if in academy the company used Oculus Rift for training of 150,000 new employees, then now buys the updated and cheaper version of Oculus Go.
The software of Walmart used with Oculus Go devices is provided by STRIVR Labs company – she specializes in reconstruction of real conditions in VR for the educational purposes. As explains Walmart, the training provided in shop covers use of new technologies and also development of empathy and special skills for customer service.
Results of educational programs of 2017 encourage – thanks to VR technologies, at sellers confidence in the forces increases, and the efficiency increases by 10-15%. Specialists note that use of VR helps students quicker and better to master information, besides they have an opportunity to immediately test new knowledge in practice.
Devices of augmented reality worth $3.4 million will come to nearly 5000 Walmart shops: in larger outlets four sets, in less large – two are provided. It is the profitable order not only for Walmart, but also for developers of VR devices Facebook and Oculus. They actively welcome use of the products not only in entertaining, but also in the educational purposes – especially if such use is followed by long-term agreements about cooperation.[1]
