The construction giant Fluor implements artificial intelligence of IBM for megaprojects

Customers: Fluor

Construction and industry of construction materials

Contractors: IBM
Product: IBM Watson
На базе: IBM Elastic Storage Server (ESS)

Project date: 2018/09

In September, 2018 Fluor announced use of the IBM Watson system in the large projects from beginning to end. Thanks to use of artificial intelligence of IBM the American construction corporation will be able to predict design processes of objects, purchases of construction materials, production of constructions and direct construction of constructions. This information then can be used in real-time operation, the press release says.

Fluor intends to use the opportunities of diagnostics of functioning of projects and also an expense analysis system and dynamics of the market for "conversion of difficult data to business knowledge having practical value" given to Watson.

Directly the staff of divisions of IBM Research and IBM Services will work with the developer thanks to what, as expected, partners will be able to reveal "thousands of results of data processing within all project lifecycle of capital construction".

Artificial intelligence, using the trends revealed in the past and model, will allow to predict future problems, such as the growing expenses and delays in projects. Besides, "smart" algorithms will be able to establish the fundamental reasons of emergence of such undesirable factors and an effect of their emergence which affected adoption of important solutions — in particular, on approximate estimates, forecasts, possible risks and the analysis of critical paths.

The vice president for information technologies of Fluor Leslie Lindgren says that the company will be applies innovations of IBM in the megaprojects quickly to define trends, models and the importance of the structured and unstructured data.

According to the senior executive vice president of Fluor Ray Barnard, capability quickly to analyze and understand the Big Data appearing in design process, purchases and construction in huge projects is the key to success and protection of capital investments of clients.[1]
